Football and team handball training postpone cellular aging in women

Abstract Several hallmarks of aging have been identified and examined separately in previous exercise studies. For the first time, this study investigates effect lifelong regular humans on two central combined. This cross-sectional involved 129 healthy, non-smoking women, including young elite football players (YF, n = 29), untrained controls (YC, 30), elderly team handball (EH, 35) (EC, 35). From a resting blood sample, mononuclear cells (MNCs) were isolated sorted into monocytes lymphocytes. Telomere length, mitochondrial (mtDNA) copy number key regulators biogenesis function (PGC-1α PGC-1β expression) measured using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Overall, women showed significantly longer telomeres higher PGC-1α expression, but lower mtDNA compared to subjects. A multivariate analysis that YF had 22–24% lymphocytes MNCs YC. In addition, 19–20% The groups did not differ expression. EH 14% EC, 3.4-fold lymphocyte expression EC. MNCs, also 1.4–1.6-fold telomere length. Elite training are associated with anti-aging mechanisms leukocytes maintenance length superior characteristics.
